Status: September 16, 2026. The trial phase of the Venice access fee for 2026 has ended. Since July 27, 2026, day visitors can once again visit the historic old town without payment and without proof of exemption.
On selected days between April and July, the fee applied from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early bookings cost five euros, last-minute registrations ten euros. Overnight guests in city accommodations were exempt from payment but had to prove their exemption.
This has not yet been decided. According to the city of Venice, the responsible bodies must separately decide on further measures for the years after 2026. Those planning a trip in 2027 should therefore check only the official city website.
Even without a fee, it is worthwhile to visit the main routes around Rialto and St. Mark's Square early in the day. Districts like Cannaregio or Castello distribute visitors better and show a quieter side of the city.
