UK ETA 2026: What Germans Need for Traveling to Great Britain
For short trips to Great Britain, an electronic travel authorization is usually required. Application, price, and validity at a glance.
Status: September 16, 2026. Anyone traveling to Great Britain for vacation or a short visit with a German or other EU passport generally needs an electronic travel authorization in advance, the UK ETA.
What does the UK ETA cost?
The official price is 16 British pounds. The authorization is valid for two years or until the expiration of the passport used for the application – whichever comes first. Multiple trips are possible within this period; the entry decision is still made at the border.
Children also need their own ETA
Each traveler needs their own authorization, including babies and children. Families should therefore submit the applications together and well in advance. According to the British government, a decision can take up to three working days.
How to apply
The application is done via the official UK ETA app or the British government website. You will need your passport, an email address, a digital photo, and a payment method. The ETA is then digitally linked to the passport.
