The EU has revised its passenger rights. What already applies, what will come in 2027, and how to act correctly in case of cancellations.
Status: September 16, 2026. In July 2026, the EU adopted revised rules for passenger rights. They are set to take effect after publication and a transition period in summer 2027. Until then, existing claims remain decisive.
In case of arrival delays of at least three hours, under existing EU rules, a claim to compensation of €250, €400, or €600 may still exist. This requires, among other things, that there are no extraordinary, unavoidable circumstances. In case of cancellation, there are also rights to reimbursement or alternative transport and assistance.
Keep your booking confirmation, boarding pass, airline communications, and receipts for meals or accommodation. Contact the operating airline first.
